Last week, the Austin American-Statesman newspaper highlighted the growth of several franchise concepts owned by The Dwyer Group® in the Austin area, including Mr. Rooter® Plumbing, Mr. Electric®, and The Grounds Guys® landscape management franchises.

Frequently named one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., Austin, Texas saw an astounding population growth of 51.1% between 2000-2010. With this population explosion comes new homes and a need for service professionals to maintain those homes.

Austin is not the only Texas city growing rapidly. According to U.S. Census Bureau data, four Texas cities ranked in the top 10 nationwide Home Service Industry Booming in Texas Citiesfor new construction permits in 2011. Houston ranked #1 with 31,271 permits, Dallas at #2 with 18,686 permits, Austin at #5 with 10,239 permits, and nearby San Antonio at #10 with 7,127 permits. El Paso and Austin also top the list of most construction permits per existing housing units.

As new homes are built, the need for landscape management, lawn care, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, and heating and air conditioning services will follow. In 2012 alone, The Dwyer Group has awarded 15 new franchise contracts to Texas entrepreneurs. However, not every home-service contractor delivers the type of customer experience that homeowners crave.

“We still have a lot of room left for expansion in the U.S. and we’re looking for the right people to represent us. We want to surprise people every time by giving them a ‘wow’ experience,” said CEO Dina Dwyer-Owens in the Statesman article.

Mr. Electric owner Wade Hudson in Austin described how an emphasis on customer service and loyalty  has helped drive a steady influx of repeat business and new business through referrals. Construction Permits by U.S. City

“We’re on a rapid growth curve. We’ve had a really steady increase due largely to returning customers,” says Hudson. “We’re growing in a sluggish economy. Not many people can say that. Thank God I’m here in Austin.”
